What is the British Empire? What was its reputation at home and abroad? What is its legacy today?

Some very important questions are addressed by these critical thinkers in Year 5.

Kev Payne

Science W

This week, we have had a visit from the author Kev Payne. Our Percy Press team conducted an interview with to find out more about what inspired him to become an author.

We hope you enjoy watching our interview!

We are very pleased to welcome you and your family to Percy Shurmer Primary Academy. We truly believe that we are a remarkable school!

At Percy Shurmer we have a dedicated, enthusiastic and talented team of staff. Everyone is committed to ensure that all children at Percy achieve their very best academically but also have access to wide-ranging opportunities that encourage aspiration. We have camping trips, visits to the seaside, curriculum days, outdoor learning and much more!  Our Deaf Learning Base is an integral part of our school and all our pupils benefit from our inclusive environment. We were proud to be recognised a Centre of Excellence for Inclusion recently and enjoy sharing our good practice with other schools.

City of Dreams Performace

During this half term, Year Three received a top-secret note in their drama session from an invisible architect who had bought an island. He needed some ideas to build his dream city! In our drama sessions, we created buildings made of sweets, dragon caves and flying schools. We invented excellent transport such as teleporters and flying bananas. This song, written by Charlie, our Hippodrome Education Network teacher, is about how our city can be anything we want!

At the heart of our curriculum is our belief that physical and mental well being is vital.  Pupils access specialist PE provision alongside a vast array of additional sporting clubs and competitions.  We have  been awarded the Gold Artsmark in recognition of our enriched curriculum, which includes working alongside the Birmingham Hippodrome, artists in residence, Birmingham Royal Ballet, The Royal Shakespeare Company, the list could go on and on.

Most importantly, pupils are happy at Percy and are Big Hearted. They support local charities and food banks, work alongside the local community volunteering in projects such as 'Adopt a street ' and know what it means to be an active,  positive member of society.
